From becoming a mother at 14 to achieving the role of CEO at 34, Dr. LaShunda Leslie-Smith exemplifies resilience, determination, and leadership. As the first in her family to earn a college degree, a master’s degree, and ultimately a Doctorate in Social Work from the University of Southern California, she has broken barriers and inspired many.

At just 24, recognizing the challenges faced by teen parents, Dr. LaShunda founded Successful Pathways, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young parents. Over nearly a decade, she built programs that transformed lives, and her passion for serving underserved communities has fueled her leadership in various nonprofit organizations. Currently, she serves as Executive Director of Connected Communities, where she leads efforts to build equitable, thriving neighborhoods.

Dr. LaShunda is also the founder of Sent One Consulting, LLC, a firm specializing in nonprofit strategy, board development, executive coaching, and program implementation. Her client-focused approach helps organizations strengthen governance, enhance fundraising, and create lasting impact.

Passionate about empowering women, Dr. LaShunda launched the EPIC Women’s Conference in 2018. The sold-out inaugural event has since grown into an annual gathering that attracts hundreds of women nationwide, transforming lives through inspiration, connection, and empowerment.

As a highly sought-after motivational speaker and workshop presenter, Dr. LaShunda has earned numerous accolades, including recognition as a Rochester Business Journal Woman of Excellence, a 40 Under 40 honoree, a Girl Scouts of Western New York Woman of Distinction, and an ATHENA Young Professional Finalist. She was also inducted into the Rochester Business Journal Circle of Excellence for her enduring impact.
